The Community Development Department plans the long range future of Tempe land for transportation corridors, business districts and residential areas as well as administering permits and oversight of current construction and maintenance of private properties. Bringing together unique skill sets, the department focuses on sustainable development, preservation of life safety, private property maintenance, neighborhood engagement, urban open space planning, historic preservation and job attraction.
Review of plans and specifications of all proposed construction, building, fire & engineering permits, on-site building inspection.
Enforcement of codes and neighborhood enhancement.
Archeological & historic properties, sites and districts. Includes the Tempe Historic Preservation Commission.
Project coordination & management for large private sector and City-owned projects in Downtown Tempe, Apache Blvd., Project Area. Includes ASU - Tempe Joint Review Committee.
Serves to improve and preserve neighborhood vitality by fostering public participation and facilitating interaction between residents and their city government.
Process and facilitates development entitlements such as use permits, variances, development plans, and signs; Process change or adoption of codes, ordinances and neighborhood plans.
Projects such as Hayden Flour Mill and other unique Tempe opportunities.
OFFICE AND PARKING LOCATIONS
The City of Tempe only validates parking for the City Hall Garage (117 E. 5th Street) across the street from the Police / Courts building and the Tempe Transportation Center.
The ASU Stadium Light Rail Station is closest to the Tempe City Hall Complex where Community Development is located.
