Tempe Streetcar restrictions starting Sept 19 thru spring 2018
- Date: - (all day)
Utility relocation work for Tempe Streetcar will begin Tuesday Sept. 19 on Mill Avenue south of University Drive, continuing south around the Gammage Curve and east on Apache Boulevard to Dorsey Lane through spring 2018. The work will include moving and installing utility lines and services to prepare for construction of streetcar track and stops that will begin in early 2018.
Work hours will be Monday through Saturday from 5 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Some overnight and weekend work will be required periodically; affected businesses and residences will be notified in advance. During the work, traffic in both directions will be maintained, with some parking and restrictions in place. Bike lanes will be shared with vehicles through the work zone. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
Tempe Streetcar, the region’s first streetcar, will connect riders to Mill and Ash avenues in downtown Tempe, Rio Salado Parkway, Apache Boulevard and two light rail stations. Streetcar will offer another transportation option in a high demand transit corridor that includes downtown Tempe, Arizona State University, Marina Heights and the growing Rio Salado corridor, as well as some of Tempe’s oldest neighborhoods.
The first phase of utility relocation in downtown Tempe was completed during the summer, paving the way for continuing work along the route. For more information about Tempe Streetcar, visit www.valleymetro.org/tempestreetcar.
